28/05/25 - Day Sixteen
A well earned rest day today! Body had held up well yesterday, and I was looking forward to exploring Strasbourg. I chatted some more with Yoav in the morning, finding out he was a teacher, and he was taking his family camping at the weekend. He told me to take some cherries for breakfast - I didn’t need to be told twice! My visit was great timing, as he explained they only bore fruit for a few weeks a year. They could never eat all the harvest, but couldn’t give the stuff away fast enough! They still had frozen cherries from yesteryear. I climbed up a ladder onto their garage to get the ripest and juiciest cherries. Truly scrumptious!
I packed up, said goodbye and left - headed straight for the nearest boulangerie. I headed into the old town and mooched about while I waited for my Airbnb check in time. By 2 o’clock I had eaten 3 baguettes, and put myself in a bread coma. I proceeded to lay in bed for a few hours resting. I checked out the inside of the gothic cathedral in all its glory and did some shopping, and washing. A
fter cheffing up a somewhat proper meal, I ventured out again in the night to see the cathedral again, but lit up this time. I almost didn’t go, and boy was it worth it. I stood as if turned to stone, immobilised by the majesty of it. Tapping into some heavenly calm or something. A moving moment for sure, so much so that I could have stayed there gazing at it all night. Coming to my senses and needing some shut eye, I reluctantly returned to my Airbnb and slipped into a dreamless slumber.
