Day Thirty-Two

13/06/25 - Day Thirty-Two

Not much to write on today. Warm day at around 30, with methodical miles to Vienna. I struggled to juggle a pack of beer for my host tonight as I cycled the streets of Vienna. I was staying with someone I knew at last!

Oh boy was it nice to see a friendly face, and I was welcomed with open arms by Lewis! Lewis was my brother's friend from their time at St Andrews University. They had studied ancient history together, but that’s all ancient history now! He had just completed his PhD here, specialising in Armenian studies. We caught up, reminisced on a time I visited them in St Andrews, and I put Lewis through his paces: asking about his PhD and Armenia with interest.

I implore you to educate yourselves on the plight of the Armenian people. A good starting point being the Armenian genocide of 1915, still unrecognised by Turkey to this day. And how this is related to ongoing conflict with Azerbaijan - a state policy of anti-Armenianism, exemplified by their destruction of Armenian churches and historical documents when taking their lands in efforts to eradicate Armenia's claim to ancestral lands. A grim topic, but one that is woefully underreported. Armenia is unfortunately is a relatively powerless position with the EU transitioning to Azeri oil after the outbreak of the Ukraine war, and Russia failing its peacekeeping duties. Anyways, a tangent, but an important one! Go have a research yourself.

Lewis treated me to a takeaway pizza, and we all chatted with his sister and girlfriend joining too. I then crashed out on a blow up mattress in his living room, luxury compared to my thin camping mattress!

Head down to Vienna so only one snap all day!
