Day Forty-Four

25/06/25 - Day Forty-Four

The stars had aligned for me today. As it happened that one of my favourite bands, Fontaines DC, were in town and Jakob had managed to get tickets. I spent the countdown to the gig blog writing and doing some admin bits and bobs around town. I stocked up on fuel and took my bike along to a mechanic to get some tougher wheels installed as well as a larger cassette to enhance my climbing abilities. Up until now I had been in my lowest gear at gradients of 3/4% and up, with anything sustained at 6+ being a real struggle. I knew this wouldn’t quite cut it when it came to the mountains of Central Asia, so needed an upgrade.

Before the gig we met up with Lyosha again for some pre drinking pool, and then walked down to the docks, where the venue was. We followed the stream of cool looking Serbs flowing in the right direction. It was still hot and the sun was beginning to set. It was a beautiful moment, as the excitement built. Down by the docks made for a hell of a venue, and the performance and crowd matched it. Looking up there was a buzzing swarm of insects, attracted to the sweaty mass of bodies. It was class, everyone was vibing and belting out the lyrics. But all good things must come to an end, and we walked away still buzzing with an after gig glow. Lyosha called it a night as he had to be in the office in the morning, so Jakob and I crusaded on deep into the night, crawling from bar to bar. We finally conked out at 6am.
