Day Forty-Seven
28/06/25 - Day Forty-Seven
I woke suddenly to the sound of a vehicle passing my tent - panic stations! Luckily it passed by and there was no trouble, I’ve done enough wild camping by now to know that no one’s really cares, provided you camp sensibly. Really tired today, I left Belgrade more tired than when I arrived - the sign of a good holiday, haha! Having said that, it had taken its toll and I really wasn’t in the mood as I packed away and cooked my porridge. My sleep had been broken as I’d had to peg my tent down in the middle of the night. I’d had a nightmare that a tree had fallen down right next to my tent, and woke to the sound of trees creaking and groaning in the wind. I kept thinking one was about to go.
Many tough and slow miles followed, most of which were on poor gravel surfaces. I dozed by the roadside in the middle of the day, only shaking off the tiredness when an oncoming lorry almost skidded out on the loose surface. I’d need some clean boxers after that one! I lunched while waiting for the ferry to take me across the Danube, which meant I stayed on the Serbian side for upcoming Iron Gates gorge. I managed to clean myself in a swimming lake not long before camp, so I can after the tough day, I went to bed happier than it had started. An early night, getting to bed at 2100.
